Paint chips can be a huge pain in a home. They can occur during many different situations and can be from long-term issues, or an accident, such as the kids picking at it. Let’s take a look at why this occurs and what you can do to fix it.
Why Does It Happen?
One of the main reasons that paint chips is due to the fact that many painters do not use proper primers. This being said, at Rob Ross Painting, we take all necessary precautions to make sure this does not happen. Due to lack of primers, humidity and condensation make their way under the paint and make it bubble, peel, and chip. This can be fully avoided by the use of a good primer. Similarly, there can be accidents, where someone accidentally scratches the wall, or if your chair/door knock against one spot over and over again consistently.
How Can It Be Fixed?
Paint chips can be relatively easy to fix, even as a DIY project. The first step is going to be removing all of the chipping paint. This can be done easily by using a putty knife, but one of the things to consider is making sure not to dig into the wall too deeply because you will want to maintain a level surface. If there are some holes created, they can easily be filled with some spackle.
After all removal and filling, it is important to use some sandpaper and sand the areas that are not level. Any chunk hanging off will show underneath the new coat of paint. After this, it is time for some primer. A good primer is CRUCIAL, so make sure this step is taken very seriously. After this primer has dried, a few coats of a regular paint can then be added and left to dry.
