So you’ve just purchased your new home, and chances are you couldn’t be more excited to move in. While there are plenty of checklists to keep track of during the process of purchasing and moving into your new home, you may really want to consider painting the entire interior to your liking, especially before all of your furniture and belongings are moved in. While this might be an attractive option to you, there are some pros and cons to consider before deciding whether or not to paint your new home’s interior before moving in.
Avoid Moving Your Furniture Twice
Why not make it easier for yourself, and avoid the hassle of moving all of your furniture at least twice? Moving from a rental property can be a lengthy process, especially if you aren’t experienced with packing up a house full of belongings. By painting the interior before you move in, you will eliminate the need to move everything again once that final coat has dried. While this eliminates one extra step from your moving checklist, keep in mind that it is going to take several days for each room to completely dry once complete. If you have multiple rooms being painted at once or live in an area where humidity levels are high, understand that the paint job might not be as durable as it would have been had you waited until after moving all of your stuff in.
Removing Unwanted Wallpaper or Ugly Paint Colors
Another reason to paint the interior of your home before moving in is because you don’t want to try and remove wallpaper or an ugly color that might be painted over on the walls. If you are already familiar with home improvement projects, then this one should come as no surprise to you. Removing wallpaper is a lot easier than trying to paint over it once it has been completely removed from all surfaces. While most pre-existing homes will have at least some sort of wallpaper in one room, keep in mind that removing this can be extremely time intensive. If you choose not to remove this before painting, make sure there aren’t any electrical outlets located behind where the paper will need to be removed.
Make Your Home The Way You Want Before You Move In
One of the main reasons to paint your home before moving in is because you will enjoy a fresh new look when all of your belongings are placed inside. When you purchase a home, there is usually some sort of furniture and décor already existing in the property that belonged to the last owners. Painting the interior before moving in allows you to completely change or renovate everything about your new home without limiting yourself with items stuck inside. Although this might be incredibly appealing, it’s still important to understand that moving furniture around is complicated and can be time-consuming if not done properly.
