Picking paint colors and styles for your home might be easy, but figuring out when and where to start painting may be the more difficult task. Painting projects can be a huge undertaking, and be tough to decide where to start. The worst part about painting is figuring out you won’t be able to use certain rooms for long periods of time. If you follow the order in which to paint, you may have better results.
Bathrooms
Bathrooms are the some of the most used rooms in a home and needs to be functional as soon as possible after painting. Since they are typically smaller spaces, you’re probably able to paint all two or three bathrooms in a day. The best time to start painting is once everyone in the house is all ready for the day. Then let it dry the rest of the day and night, avoiding showers or running water that causes steam. This can ruin the finish.
Bedrooms
Bedrooms should be painted at the same time or right after the bathrooms are done. The idea is to have them usable while the rest of the home is being painted, basically as being an escape from the paint fumes. Having your bedrooms functional for sleeping and accessing your belongings is important. We suggest starting earlier in the day so that it can air out and dry during the remainder of the day.
Kitchen
The kitchen is another spot in the home that is extremely necessary. Most people would want access to their food and cooking space for as much time as possible, so the kitchen should be next in line. Try to cover the cabinets and counters with tarps so that paint doesn’t get everywhere.
Living Room/Great Room
Living rooms and other larger rooms such as the dining area, should be saved for after the kitchen is done being painted. Painting bigger rooms can take a lot more time, so they are better to leave towards the end. These are also rooms you can avoid using til the time being.
Laundry Room/Other Small Rooms
Smaller rooms such as the laundry room, closets, pantry, and wet room should be painted last because they are used less and the fastest to finish.
When You’re Done
Make sure your paint job doesn’t get ruined after all your hard work is done! For a day or so, avoid using hot water so that steam won’t ruin the finish of the paint. Make sure you check all the rooms in good lighting to make sure you didn’t miss any spots or leave splotchy areas.
